DMARC record checker

See a domain’s DMARC policy, where its reports go and whether it actually protects against spoofed email.

Live DNS lookup over DNS-over-HTTPS. You can also paste an email address.

DMARC tags

TagMeaningExample
vVersion, always DMARC1v=DMARC1
pPolicy: none, quarantine or rejectp=quarantine
spPolicy for subdomainssp=reject
npPolicy for subdomains that don’t exist (RFC 9989)np=reject
tTesting mode: receivers apply one level less (RFC 9989)t=y
ruaWhere aggregate reports gorua=mailto:dmarc@example.com
rufWhere failure reports goruf=mailto:dmarc@example.com
adkim / aspfAlignment mode: r (relaxed) or s (strict)adkim=s

RFC 9989 replaced RFC 7489 in May 2026. It added np and t and removed pct, rf and ri. The checker still explains those three when a record uses them, since receivers that follow the old standard keep reading them.

How alignment, policies and reports work together is covered in DMARC record explained.

Example records

_dmarc.example.com. TXT "v=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:dmarc@example.com"
_dmarc.example.com. TXT "v=DMARC1; p=reject; rua=mailto:dmarc@example.com; adkim=s; aspf=s"

No record yet, or one that needs fixing? The DMARC generator builds it and shows where to add it at your DNS host.

Frequently asked questions

What is DMARC?

Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance is a TXT record at _dmarc.yourdomain.com. It tells receivers what to do with email that fails SPF and DKIM alignment, and where to send reports.

Do I need DMARC?

Yes, if you send email. Since 2024, Gmail and Yahoo require a DMARC record from bulk senders (Gmail counts senders of about 5,000 or more messages a day; Yahoo sets no number), and it is the only way to stop others from using your domain in the From address.

What DMARC policy should I use?

Start with p=none and a rua address to collect reports. Once all your legitimate senders pass, move to p=quarantine, then p=reject. The DMARC generator writes the record for each step.

What is DMARC alignment?

The domain in the visible From address must match the domain checked by SPF (the envelope sender) or by DKIM (the d= tag). Relaxed alignment accepts subdomains, strict needs an exact match.
