Email server settings
SiteGround SMTP settings and IMAP
The SiteGround SMTP settings are port 465 with SSL/TLS, IMAP on port 993, and your full email address as the user name. The server name differs between accounts: Site Tools shows it under Email → Accounts → Mail Configuration → Manual Settings.

User name: your full email address, for example jane@example.org, and the password of that mailbox.
Find your SiteGround server name
SiteGround doesn’t publish one server name for everyone. Its knowledge base asks you to “check the exact server name to use with each of your mail accounts”:
- Open Site Tools → Email → Accounts and go to Manage Email Accounts.
- Click the actions menu (⋮) next to the account and select Mail Configuration.
- Open the Manual Settings tab: it lists the incoming and outgoing server for that account.
The Autoconfigure tab in the same window offers a download for one-click setup in supported mail apps. If yours isn’t supported, use the manual settings.
- SiteGround SMTP settings: port 465 with SSL/TLS, authentication with the full address and mailbox password. SiteGround’s guides don’t list port 587 for your mailbox.
- IMAP on 993, POP3 on 995, both SSL/TLS. SiteGround says “It is not recommended to use POP3”: it removes mail from the server and keeps it on one device only.
SiteGround IMAP settings for Outlook, Thunderbird and iPhone
- Outlook (automatic): in Mail Configuration → Autoconfigure, select your Outlook version. Then add the account in Outlook with name, address and password; Outlook detects the settings (SiteGround).
- Outlook (manual): enter the full address, open Advanced options, choose manual setup and IMAP. Enter the server names from Site Tools, ports 993 and 465 with SSL/TLS, and leave Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) unchecked for both servers.
- Thunderbird: port 993 for incoming and 465 for outgoing mail; the connection security switches to SSL/TLS; leave the authentication method on Autodetect; user name = full address (SiteGround).
- iPhone and iPad: add an Other Mail Account, choose IMAP and enter the server names from Site Tools, ports 993 and 465 with SSL, and your full address as the user name.
Common SiteGround email problems
| Error or symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| Mail app can’t find the server | You probably guessed the host. Copy the incoming and outgoing server from Manual Settings in Site Tools for that account. |
| Outlook can’t log in | SiteGround’s Outlook guide: leave Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) unchecked for both servers, and use the full email address as the user name. |
| Sending stops for an hour | The site reached its hourly limit (below). Every recipient counts as one email. |
For bounces from other servers, the SMTP error codes reference explains the codes.
SiteGround email sending limits
| SiteGround plan | Emails per hour |
|---|---|
| StartUp, GrowBig, Ecommerce, Coderick | 400 |
| GoGeek and Cloud | 800 |
You can add up to 80 recipients to a message, and each recipient counts as one email towards the hourly limit (SiteGround acceptable use of email). For bulk mail, SiteGround points to its Email Marketing service. Clean the list with a bulk email verifier before you send so dead addresses don’t use up the quota.
Which domains use SiteGround email?
SiteGround email runs on your own domain, so the address doesn’t show the host. The MX lookup shows where a domain receives mail, and is this a real email address checks one mailbox. Sending from a website or a new domain also needs an SPF record.
