Mediacom IMAP settings and SMTP server

The Mediacom IMAP settings are mail.mediacombb.net, port 993 with SSL/TLS. Outgoing mail goes through smtp.mediacombb.net on port 587 with STARTTLS, or port 465 with SSL/TLS if your app has no STARTTLS. The same settings apply to @mediacombb.net and @mchsi.com addresses.

Sign-in: Full email address + email password

User name: your full email address, for example jane.doe@mediacombb.net, for incoming and outgoing mail; the password is your email password.

Mediacom email IMAP and SMTP settings

Mediacom publishes these values in its third-party email settings article on the Mediacom community site: “The settings below are for both @mchsi.com and @mediacombb.net email addresses.”

  • IMAP for incoming mail: mail.mediacombb.net, port 993, SSL/TLS. IMAP is the default account type in Mediacom’s steps; keep it unless you specifically want POP3. The article gives no POP3 server.
  • SMTP for outgoing mail: smtp.mediacombb.net, port 587 with STARTTLS. Only if the app can’t do STARTTLS, use port 465 with SSL/TLS.
  • One login for both servers. The user name, your full address, is used for the incoming and the outgoing connection, so turn on authentication for the outgoing server.
  • Webmail: Mediacom’s webmail runs at https://mail.mediacombb.net (Mediacom webmail). If a mail app fails, first check that you can sign in there.

If the account works and one mail app still fails, Mediacom’s article refers you to “the manufacturer of your email client software”.

User name and password

The user name is your full email address, for example jane.doe@mediacombb.net or jane.doe@mchsi.com, and the password is the password of your email account. Mediacom’s article doesn’t describe app passwords or OAuth sign-in.

Set up Mediacom email on iPhone, Mac and Outlook

iPhone and iPad (menu names from Apple’s current guide):

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts and tap Add Account.
  2. Enter your email address, tap Next, then tap Add Other Account → Mail Account.
  3. Enter your name, full email address, email password and a description, tap Next and wait while Mail verifies the account, then save it.
  4. If Mail asks for servers, enter mail.mediacombb.net (incoming) and smtp.mediacombb.net (outgoing) with your full address as the user name, and the ports from the table.

Mac Mail: open System Settings (System Preferences on older macOS) → Internet Accounts, choose Add Other Account and then Mail account. Enter your name and address and click Sign In, then the user name (your full address, used for incoming and outgoing mail), your email password, mail.mediacombb.net as the incoming and smtp.mediacombb.net as the outgoing server. Leave the account type on IMAP.

Outlook on Windows: add the account, open Advanced options and set it up manually, select IMAP, enter the servers and ports from the table, then your email password, and click Connect. Outlook sends a test message to check the account.

Thunderbird and Android apps: the same values work in any IMAP app: IMAP 993 SSL/TLS, SMTP 587 STARTTLS (or 465 SSL/TLS), full address as user name.

Common Mediacom email problems

Error or symptomFix
Receiving works, sending failsTurn on authentication for the outgoing server with the same login, and match port and security: 587 with STARTTLS, or 465 with SSL/TLS.
Login rejectedEnter the whole address as the user name, including @mediacombb.net or @mchsi.com, and check the password in webmail.
“Server not responding” or the connection times outCheck the spelling of mail.mediacombb.net and smtp.mediacombb.net and the port numbers, and make sure SSL/TLS is on for 993.
Webmail works, one app still failsMediacom refers problems with a single mail app to the maker of that app.

Bounces from other servers carry a reply code; the SMTP error codes reference explains them.

Is @mediacombb.net a valid email domain?

Yes. Mediacom email addresses end in @mediacombb.net or @mchsi.com, and Mediacom’s settings article covers both. A valid domain is still no proof that one mailbox exists: an address that worked years ago may have been closed since, and mail to it then hard bounces.

Check one contact with is this a real email address, or clean an older list with the bulk email verifier before you send to it; that keeps your email bounce rate low.
