Email server settings
GoDaddy SMTP settings and IMAP servers
The GoDaddy SMTP settings for Workspace Email are smtpout.secureserver.net, port 465 with SSL or port 587, and incoming mail uses imap.secureserver.net on port 993. You log in with your full email address and its email password. Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy is a different product: it sends through Microsoft’s servers, and an admin has to turn on SMTP Authentication first.

secureserver.net SMTP settings explained
GoDaddy sells several email products, and the server depends on which one you have:
| Product | Incoming | Outgoing |
|---|---|---|
| Workspace Email | imap (993) or pop (995) | smtpout (465 or 587) |
| Professional Email (Titan) | imap (993, SSL) | smtpout (465, SSL) |
| Web Hosting (cPanel) email | mail. + your domain (IMAP 993, POP 995) | mail. + your domain (465 or 587, SSL/TLS) |
| Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy | Microsoft’s servers, see below | smtp (587) |
Sources: GoDaddy’s server and port settings for Workspace Email, its IMAP settings for Professional Email powered by Titan and its cPanel mail client settings.
- Workspace Email is being retired. GoDaddy writes: “We’ve made the decision to retire Workspace Email.” Affected customers get a retirement email and Microsoft 365 credit with the same number of mailboxes and the time remaining; data has to be exported within 7 days of that email (GoDaddy). GoDaddy gives no calendar date.
- POP-only plans. If your Workspace Control Center shows only a POP3 incoming server, your plan doesn’t support IMAP.
- Blocked ports. If your internet provider blocks the default ports, GoDaddy lists unencrypted alternatives: IMAP 143, POP 110 and SMTP 25, 80 or 3535. They send your password without encryption, so try 465 and 587 first (GoDaddy troubleshooting).
- Check your own values in Webmail under Tools → Email Setup Center, signed in with your email address and email password.
GoDaddy Microsoft 365 SMTP settings
Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy mailboxes run on Microsoft’s servers. GoDaddy’s server settings article sends you to Outlook on the web, Settings → Mail → Sync email, where the POP, IMAP and SMTP settings of your mailbox are listed. Microsoft documents smtp.office365.com on port 587 with STARTTLS for sending and outlook.office365.com on 993 for IMAP (Microsoft Learn).
GoDaddy adds a warning: “Microsoft 365 no longer supports POP and IMAP settings in Outlook, Apple Mail, Gmail and most email clients.” It recommends adding the mailbox with Exchange settings instead. The details for apps and devices are on the Office 365 SMTP settings page.
Passwords and SMTP Authentication
Workspace Email and Professional Email: the mail app logs in with the full email address and the password of that mailbox, for incoming and outgoing mail. GoDaddy’s pages for these products don’t mention app passwords. Webmail uses the same login; your GoDaddy account username and password don’t work there.
Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy: SMTP sign-in fails until an admin enables SMTP Authentication for the user (GoDaddy):
- Sign in to the Email & Office Dashboard with your GoDaddy username and password.
- Select Manage next to the user.
- Scroll down to Account information and select Advanced Settings.
- Turn on the SMTP Authentication toggle and select Continue.
You need admin permissions. Two side effects to know about:
- Security defaults: if your organization uses them, turning on SMTP Authentication switches them off for the whole organization.
- Multifactor authentication: keep MFA on and use an app password for that user, or turn MFA off for the user.
Microsoft is retiring password (Basic) authentication for SMTP AUTH; the timeline is on the Office 365 SMTP settings page.
GoDaddy IMAP settings for iPhone, Thunderbird and Outlook
iPhone and iPad: open Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts → Add Account → Add Other Account → Mail Account, enter your name, address and email password, and choose IMAP. Incoming Mail Server: imap.secureserver.net; Outgoing Mail Server: smtpout.secureserver.net; both with your full email address as the user name. If sending fails, check the outgoing server under the account’s advanced settings: SSL on, port 465.
Thunderbird: enter your name, address and email password. If Thunderbird doesn’t find the settings, configure them manually: IMAP imap.secureserver.net on 993 with SSL/TLS, SMTP smtpout.secureserver.net on 465 with SSL/TLS, user name = full address on both servers.
Outlook and Android: add an IMAP account with the values from the table, and turn on authentication for the outgoing server with the same login. For Professional Email, GoDaddy’s tip: if the settings don’t work, look for an option to require sign-in and turn it on.
Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy: add the mailbox as an Exchange or Microsoft 365 account rather than IMAP, as GoDaddy recommends.
Common GoDaddy email problems
| Error or symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| Receiving works, sending fails | GoDaddy’s checklist: make sure SMTP relay is set up in your email account, compare the server names with Webmail’s Tools → Email Setup Center, and check message size, number of recipients and the daily relay limit. |
| Password rejected | Use the password of the mailbox, not your GoDaddy account password. Test it by signing in to Webmail with the same address and password. |
| Connection times out on port 465 or 587 | Your internet provider may block the port. Try the other SSL/TLS port, then GoDaddy’s alternative ports listed above. |
| Only a POP3 server is shown, IMAP doesn’t connect | Your Workspace Email plan doesn’t support IMAP. Use pop on port 995. |
| Microsoft 365 from GoDaddy: SMTP sign-in fails | An admin has to turn on SMTP Authentication for the user in the Email & Office Dashboard (steps above). |
GoDaddy’s troubleshooting pages don’t quote error texts. For bounces from other servers, look up the code in the SMTP error codes reference; 550 5.1.1 means the recipient’s mailbox doesn’t exist.
GoDaddy SMTP relay limits
GoDaddy counts SMTP relays: every recipient of a message is one relay, so one message to 30 people uses 30 (GoDaddy troubleshooting). Relays are used only when you send from a mail app; Workspace Webmail doesn’t use any (What are SMTP relays?).
| Product | Limit |
|---|---|
| Workspace Email | Up to 500 relays per mailbox per day, rolling 24 hours |
| Web Hosting (cPanel) email | 500 per day per email user, and 500 per hour for all users on the hosting account |
| Windows Hosting (Plesk) | 1,000 per day |
| Managed Hosting for WordPress | 1,000 per day |
Regional versions of GoDaddy’s relay page differ for Workspace Email: one lists 500 relays per mailbox per day, the Canadian one 250 plus optional packs of 50, up to 500. The hosting limits are from Hosting email relay limits.
Mailing lists eat relays quickly, and every dead address counts too. Run old lists through a bulk email verifier first, and send campaigns through an email service that signs your mail with SPF and DKIM.
Which addresses use GoDaddy email?
You can’t tell from the address. GoDaddy mailboxes use the customer’s own domain (jane@example.org), and secureserver.net is only the name of GoDaddy’s mail servers. The MX lookup shows which servers receive mail for a domain.
To check whether a single mailbox exists before you send, use is this a real email address.
