Is ymail a valid email domain?

Is ymail a valid email? Yes. ymail.com is a Yahoo Mail domain, and its mail goes to the same servers as yahoo.com. New Yahoo accounts can’t pick it anymore, so a ymail address is an older one.

Short answer

Yes. ymail.com is a real Yahoo Mail domain. Its MX records point to the same Yahoo mail servers as yahoo.com, so existing ymail addresses receive mail. Yahoo’s sign-up form no longer offers the domain, though: new accounts get @yahoo.com or @myyahoo.com.

Who runs ymail.com

Yahoo. The domain’s MX records point to mta5, mta6 and mta7.am0.yahoodns.net, the same three hosts that receive mail for yahoo.com. Behind the domain there is no separate service: a ymail address is an ordinary Yahoo Mail account with a different ending. The DNS records agree: the SPF record redirects to Yahoo’s _spf.mail.yahoo.com, and the DMARC policy is p=reject, so receivers that enforce DMARC reject mail that claims to come from @ymail.com but fails authentication.

That ending matters. Yahoo’s help on domain extensions warns that mail sent to the wrong domain won’t be delivered. If a user signed up as jane@ymail.com, then jane@yahoo.com is someone else’s address, or nobody’s.

The ymail.com name itself was first registered on March 3, 1999, according to the registry’s RDAP record.

Can you still create a ymail.com address?

No. Yahoo’s sign-up form puts @yahoo.com after the name field and offers @myyahoo.com as the only alternative. Yahoo’s help article lists the same two endings for new accounts and mentions older, regional ones such as @yahoo.fr (see the yahoo.fr profile).

Existing ymail accounts keep working. So when a ymail address turns up in a sign-up form today, it’s someone who has had the account for years, not a made-up address.

Is ymail a valid email address for your list?

Accept it. Treat it like any Yahoo address:

The risk with ymail addresses is age. Yahoo’s rule for inactive mailboxes: a mailbox that isn’t opened for 12 months becomes inactive and stops receiving new email, and Yahoo permanently deletes its contents. An old list with many ymail contacts is likely to hold such mailboxes, and deleted ones turn into hard bounces. Run the list through a bulk email verifier before you send.

To set up a ymail account in a mail app, use the Yahoo Mail IMAP settings.

Check an address at ymail.com

A real domain doesn’t mean the mailbox exists. The email checker looks up the domain’s MX records and asks the mail server about the mailbox without sending an email, and it flags disposable, role and free-provider addresses.

Frequently asked questions

Is ymail a valid email address?

Yes. ymail.com belongs to Yahoo Mail and accepts mail through Yahoo’s servers. Whether a particular ymail mailbox still exists is a separate question; an email checker answers that.

Is ymail the same as Yahoo Mail?

Yes. Mail for ymail.com goes to the same Yahoo mail servers as yahoo.com, and ymail addresses use the Yahoo Mail IMAP settings. The domain is part of the address, though: jane@ymail.com and jane@yahoo.com are two different addresses.

Can I still create a ymail.com email address?

No. Yahoo’s sign-up form (checked October 10, 2026) offers @yahoo.com, with @myyahoo.com as the alternative. @ymail.com isn’t offered.

Why did my email to a ymail address bounce?

Most often the mailbox is gone. Yahoo says a mailbox that isn’t opened for 12 months becomes inactive, stops receiving new email, and its contents are permanently deleted. A typo in the name, or writing yahoo.com instead of ymail.com, has the same result.
