A Hunter.io alternative makes sense when you use Hunter for one or two of its jobs, finding a work address or verifying a list, and pay for a platform built for prospecting and cold outreach. emailvalidation.io does finding and verification on one monthly allowance, at a lower price per verification. Below is a side-by-side comparison. Hunter’s figures come from its pricing page and API documentation, checked October 9, 2026.
We make emailvalidation.io. Hunter’s advantages are listed in their own section; sources are at the end.
Quick verdict
- Stay with Hunter if you use its lead database (Discover), Domain Search, outreach sequences or signals: you would need two or three tools to replace them.
- Choose emailvalidation.io if you mostly verify addresses, or find a known person’s work address from their name and company domain, and want it cheap: 5,000 credits for $9.99 a month.
- Use both if Hunter is your outreach tool and you verify large lists elsewhere: Hunter’s verifications use the same credits as its searches.

Where Hunter is stronger
- It’s a prospecting platform. Discover is a searchable B2B lead database with filters and an AI assistant; Domain Search lists the addresses Hunter knows at a company. emailvalidation.io has no lead database: you need the person’s name and company domain first.
- Outreach is built in. Hunter sends sequences from your connected email accounts (3 on Starter, 10 on Growth, 20 on Scale) and adds an AI writing assistant and signals. We don’t send email.
- You pay only for hits. A search that finds nothing costs nothing on Hunter, and repeated searches for the same address count once per billing period.
- Unlimited team members on every plan, a free Chrome extension, a Google Sheets add-on and a CRM integration.
- Clear API limits on every plan, including the free one: 10 requests a second and 300 a minute for the Email Verifier.
Where emailvalidation.io is the better fit
Verification costs a fraction. On Hunter, 5,000 verifications need 2,500 credits, more than the Starter plan includes, so the realistic plan is Growth at $149 a month. On emailvalidation.io they cost $9.99 (0.20 cents each); 100,000 cost $94.99 a month. See the email validation API pricing.
Searches get cheaper as you grow. On our Large plan, an email search costs 10 of 100,000 credits, about 0.95 cents; on Hunter’s Growth plan a found email costs about 1.5 cents at monthly billing. Hunter’s yearly Scale plan is cheaper (about 0.84 cents per found email), and Hunter charges nothing when a search finds no address, so compare with your own volume and hit rate.
One allowance, two jobs, plus a full API. The email finder takes a first name, last name and company domain, checks every address with the company’s mail server before it returns it; on catch-all domains, which accept any address, it returns the most common pattern (first.last@) and marks it as risky. You save the leads you find to lists and export them as CSV. The same credits pay for the email validation API, with 15 fields per result, a bulk API for up to 100,000 addresses per job and a signed webhook when a job finishes.
LinkedIn workflow. Our Chrome extension finds addresses for people on LinkedIn profiles, Sales Navigator, Groups and Recruiter and exports leads to your account.
What you give up compared with Hunter: the lead database, Domain Search and sending sequences. Hunter also charges search credits only when it finds an address.

Moving from Hunter’s Email Verifier
If you call Hunter’s verifier from your own code, the statuses map like this:
| Hunter status | emailvalidation.io |
|---|---|
valid | state: deliverable |
invalid | state: undeliverable, with a reason such as invalid_mailbox |
accept_all | catch_all: true, with catch_all=1 on the request |
webmail | free: true (the verdict stays in state) |
disposable | disposable: true |
unknown | state: unknown |
Hunter folds webmail and disposable into its single status; we return them as separate flags next to the verdict, so a Gmail address can be both deliverable and free.
